Family Session XL

Sarah Markus Photography

I looooooove photographing the people I love! When Jon and Kristin asked me to do a family session for them and their six gorgeous children, I say yes right away.

When we first moved to the Belleville area, they were some of the first people we met, and helped us feel more at home right away. We are dairy farmers, they are dairy farmers, and we all go to the same church. It was a friendship made in heaven!

Kristin grew up on their dairy farm, and they just built a great new barn. They are great business owners, and we are lucky to have them as friends who truly understand what our life is like. Even luckier to have them when we had a tractor fire (no one was hurt!) and they were able to rent us a tractor while we waited for a new one, so we didn’t lose any production.

I definitely admire Kristin as a mother as well, she home-schools all six of her kids, and is amazing at it!

For the session, they asked that I photograph them on a hill on their land that they spend a lot of time at. They take picnics on this hill often, and spend a lot of time just playing with their kids up there. I can see why they love it so much, it is a tranquil place to be in nature. It made for a stunning backdrop for their family photographs.

Family sessions with a lot of kids can be crazy but these six were perfection in front of my camera. I loved the backdrop of the coverall with hay bales and the whole family. One of my absolute favorites was of the oldest five holding hands and smiling and laughing as they walked through the tall grass.

This session really reminded me why I’m so fond of taking pictures at the golden hour of sunset. I’m so blessed to know them, it was an honor taking their family pictures!
