This was a very special cake smash session for me for a couple reasons. This sweet one-year-old girl is my niece, Melanie Sarah Lillian. Recognize that name? Of course you do! She’s named after yours truly. So that’s reason number one. Number two would be, she was one of the first baby’s I ever photographed!

My sister, an entrepreneur herself, is one of my biggest supporters and had me do a cake smash session when her baby girl turned one. Melanie is Hannah’s precious rainbow baby, and we were so excited to do this cake smash session!

The minute I saw the unicorn outfit by Cora and Violet I knew Melanie had to have it. Then I saw the unicorn headband by The Dainty Miss! We loved the colours in the unicorn outfit, dainty pink and purple with pops of teal and gold, and the whole shoot just came together around the colours of the unicorn.

My sister just recently opened a bakery in Port Hope, Ontario. She is a custom cake artist! All of my smash cakes come from Frosted Flour Co. The cake was so gorgeous with ribbons of our colours and the gold glitter one topper from All Things Party with a unicorn horn was so creative! I know I’m biased, but I adore her work. The balloons worked so well above baby girl, I ordered them from Phoenix Balloons.

Melanie was a delight in front of the camera, I like to think her love for her photo shoot came from me. When we brought out the cake, her expressions were hilarious, and all pure happiness. I know she gets her love of cake from her mama. She literally dove into the cake, no direction needed. Not only do my sister’s cakes look spectacular. They taste it too!

Clean up is always great in a smash session. Melanie went right into the bowl of warm water to splash around. We got so many great shots of her in the water, I was in love with her entire Cake Smash gallery.

With this particular client, I can guarantee I’ll be photographing her for the rest of her life, whether she likes it or not.
